Yoga Teacher

What was your journey to becoming a yoga teacher?

When I left University in 2010 I ended up in a random job that wasn’t connected to my illustration degree or creative in any way, and I was pretty miserable and felt really lost. I started working at a University providing pastoral support to the students during their time there, and that was my first taste of… I love helping people and I’m pretty good at it!

During this time I had started practising Yoga and, after spending a long time being disconnected from my body and it’s needs, I started to feel more joyful, alive, creative and at home in my body. I went on a foundation course in Yoga to learn more about the Philosophy and Spiritual side, and realised it was something I wanted to share with others.

Yoga, Art & (more recently) Somatics have helped me through personal challenges at different times in my life, they have helped me keep that creativity and sense of joy, and these practices are now a very crucial part of my life; they sustain me on a daily basis and help me to support others in my community.

What does your downtime look like?

I love going for walks, we have so many beautiful parks in Birmingham and nature is just the best reset button. I also like to paint and watch a good series on tv.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Learn to listen to and trust your own inner voice and inner wisdom, and have good, clear boundaries! We can be bombarded with so many different opinions and conflicting advice, we can be given advice by people who don't have our best interest at heart and this can cause more confusion, self-doubt, anxiety, depression, people pleasing behaviours and actually we all have the capability to choose for ourselves and to be leaders of our own life, but most of us have forgotten how to connect with it.

A fun fact about you?

Me and my Mom went on the TV show 'This Morning' with Richard & Judy to have our hair cut by Nicky Clarke, when I was about 9 years old. My brother and Dad met Cliff Richard in the Green Room and we saw The Corrs recording a song for the show!
